How It Works

1

Pre-Debate Vote

Cast your initial vote on the debate motion before hearing the arguments

2

Watch the Debate

Hear compelling arguments from experts on both sides of the issue

3

Final Vote

Vote again after the debate and see if your mind was changed

About the Platform

Our debate platform is inspired by renowned formats like the Munk Debates and Intelligence Squared, focusing on substantive discussions about important policy issues.

What makes our approach unique is how we measure success: the winning side is not determined by final vote count, but by which team persuades the most people to change their minds during the debate.

This methodology rewards persuasiveness and incentivizes debaters to engage meaningfully with audience concerns rather than simply appealing to pre-existing views.

How Winners Are Determined

  1. 1
Pre-debate poll: The audience votes on the motion before any arguments are presented
  2. 2
The debate: Each side presents their arguments and rebuttals
  3. 3
Post-debate poll: The audience votes again on the same motion
  4. 4
Measuring the shift: We calculate the percentage change for each side
  5. 5
Declaring the winner: The side that gained the most percentage points wins the debate

The Debate Process

1

Pre-Debate Voting

Before the debate begins, audience members vote on whether they agree or disagree with the motion. This establishes a baseline for measuring opinion shifts.

2

The Debate

Expert speakers from both sides present their arguments. The format includes opening statements, rebuttals, cross-examination, and closing arguments.

3

Post-Debate Voting

After hearing all arguments, the audience votes again. We measure which side gained the most support to determine the winner of the debate.

Voting Guidelines

Vote on the motion, not the debaters

Focus on the arguments presented, not personal preferences about the speakers.

Consider changing your mind

Be open to persuasion - the goal is to encourage thoughtful reconsideration of positions.

Be honest with your votes

For accurate results, vote according to your actual opinion, not what you think others want to hear.
